The iPhone is a beautifully designed product. It’s thin, lightweight, and a joy to hold in the hand.
With all the effort placed into the fit and finish of this product, it seems almost insulting to then cover it with a plastic or rubber shell to preserve its beauty. A case not only hides the natural elegance of the iPhone, it typically alters the iPhone’s look and feel entirely. However, a drop and a scuff later, I can tell you that I wish I kept a case on from the start.
For those of you who love the look and feel of your iPhone without a case, consider at least a thin hardshell case before the inevitable happens. A thin hardshell case has a typically low profile and fits the iPhone so perfectly that it’s almost invisible. Yet, it provides much of the same protection of a case double or triple its size.
The Elago Slim Fit 2 is a durable plastic hardshell that snaps onto my iPhone giving it protection to its back and corners while preserving my iPhone’s thinly elegant shape and feel in my hand. It seems like nothing has been added to my iPhone except for a soft texture coating (available only in matte “soft feeling” colors) that provides scratch resistance and a much needed grip that the iPhone’s naked aluminum surface does not provide.
However, this case does have one major shortcoming. The Elago’s precision fit, particularly near the display edges, provides little to no screen protection. But remember, the iPhone’s glass is strengthened and scratch resistant. This native feature to the iPhone already renders a screen protector unnecessary. And, for a case that’s designed to preserve the look and feel of having nothing on the iPhone at all, any protection is better than none… Right?

While this case is available in an assortment of colors, I find the matte colors to be the best because of their “soft feeling” coated surface. This scratch resistant coating provides added protection and grip.
The camera hole is widely cut and angled to prevent glare in photos when the flash is used.
What I like most about this case is the level of protection it provides without any added bulk. This allows the iPhone to showcase its featherlight design while giving me the piece of mind that its beauty may withstand any sudden and heavy journey back to earth.
